Destiny 2: The Witch Queen guide: Vow of the Disciple Lore book, Imperious Sun Exotic Ghost shell (2024)

Inside of Vow of the Disciple, Destiny 2’s new raid that was released with The Witch Queen, and the new Preservation mission in the Throne World, you can discover a lot of secrets and some pretty impactful lore spread throughout the Darkness Pyramid.

In this Destiny 2: The Witch Queen guide, we’ll show you how to unlock all 10 chapters of the “Shattered Suns” Lore book and the Imperious Sun Ghost Shell.

The Preservation mission

There are two different ways to get the Shattered Suns lore pages in Destiny 2: The Witch Queen. The first is through a puzzle in the Preservation mission and the Vow of the Disciple raid, which we’ll get to below. The second is the fastest, but you can only do it once.

After you defeat the final bosses of the Preservation mission, you’ll have 25 minutes to walk around the area and find interactable podiums (the podiums aren’t interactable during the mission). There are five in total throughout the area, and they’ll give some dialogue about some of the lore for the surrounding artifacts or art. Most will not be interactable until you finish the previous bit of dialogue, so this will take some time.

Podium 1

This podium is right where you defeat the final bosses. It’s along the edge facing the large worm.

Podium 2

This podium is to the back right of the main arena from encounter one of the raid (the one with the giant bone). You can get here after beating the bosses by heading back into this room and taking a left. Head straight until you see the podium.

Podium 3

This podium is right at the entrance of the main arena. It’s on top of the small building that’s in front of the entrance door.

Podium 4

This podium is in the “give” room, which is the first room you have to enter for the final encounter of the mission. It’s at the back of the room.

Podium 5

This podium is in the “stop” room, which is the second room you have to enter for the final encounter of the mission. The podium is at the back right of the room.

The symbol wall

Directly before the Acquisition area is a small room that has many pillars with the symbols above on them.

You can access this area through the raid or the Preservation mission. In the Preservation mission, you can only do this puzzle once per run (meaning you’ll have to do the entire thing five times). If you have friends, we suggest you do this in the raid. If you’re doing this in the raid and want multiple pages, you’ll need to head into the Acquisition encounter and wipe after each code. The door will remain open, so you can head back in and repeat the process until you complete the lore Triumph.

To find out what code you need to enter, you will need to find the room with the coded wall in it. You can find it by walking along the right-hand wall until you see an open window.

Jump down, and you’ll find a code similar to the one seen above.

There are three rows, each having a different meaning. You can ignore the top row, as these symbols don’t matter for this puzzle; they just signify that you (the Guardian) need to do something. The second row tells you what action to perform, and the third row tells you what symbol to do that action to. There are three different symbols that can appear in the second row.

  • Enter: Melee the symbol that is below it
  • Commune: Interact with the symbol that is below it
  • Kill: Shoot the symbol that is below it

The third row can have any of the 26 symbols shown above, so get the code and then walk around that room to find the symbols. You don’t have a time limit, and you don’t need to accomplish these in order. You’ll get the lore piece when you enter the fourth and final action. If it doesn’t work, try hitting one of the melee symbols again, as they can be a little finicky.

Using the above wall as an example, the code would be:

  • Melee Earth
  • Melee Enter
  • Interact with Savathun
  • Shoot Tower

You can do this 10 times for the lore, or you can do five of these and the five from the Preservation mission; there’s no limit on the amount of times you can enter the codes. Once you get the 10 lore pieces and unlock the Imperious Sun Exotic Ghost shell, completing the code additional times does not grant anything.

You’ll need to complete the “Vow of the Disciple Lore Book Unlocks” Triumph and collect the Imperious Sun Exotic Ghost shell to complete the Vow of the Disciple seal and earn the “Disciple-Slayer” title.
